JOB TITLE

Cook and Meal Organiser, Howard Garden Social Centre.

REPORTS TO

The Centre Manager. The post holder will also work with Centre volunteers to deliver the hot lunch service for members and any catering for special events.

PURPOSE OF ROLE

The role will be responsible for planning, preparation and cooking and meals for members of The Centre, as part of the weekday lunch service (currently supplied Monday to Friday)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

To assist the Centre Manager in the provision of a lunch service
To liaise with the Centre Manger in the preparation of menus
To liaise with the Centre Manager with regards to ordering and purchasing of food and other supplies
To take responsibility for ensuring that the food collection takes place
To perform regular stock-takes and ensure that menus are planned in advance, in order to reduce wastage
To manage the food storage and kitchen areas of the Centre
To ensure that food handling, hygiene and health and safety legislation is carried out
To be compliant with the requirements by our food providers in relation to storing and distribution of food to our members.
To keep relevant paperwork up to date

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Catering experience, preferably in an institution such as a care home or school
Experience of applying food handling and food hygiene legislation, and running a lunch service that complies with health and safety requirements
Experience of meal planning and food ordering.
Qualifications, training or experience in some or all of the following:
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) is essential
- Health and Safety
- First Aid

Flexible and able to work under pressure
Able to work with people at all levels and has good communication skills
Able to work using own initiative
Experience of working with volunteers to deliver a meal service is preferred but not essential
